Resident Assistant Job Description

POSITION:House Mom

RESPONSIBLE TO:Ministry Director

SUMMARY: To assist in fulfilling the purpose/mission of NOH, Women and Children’s Ministry Center (WCMC) by being responsible for the vision, development, and management of the transitional housing program and the residents within.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure the proper implementation and use of NOH policies and operating procedures as outlined in the guest handbook while exercising care and commitment to the well-being of residents in the program.
Possess the ability to keep confidences and report concerns to the Ministry Director.
Oversee guests’ self-administration of medication at the desk (with emphasis on conscientious handling of the controlled substances that guests have in the building).
Exhibit excellent listening skills as well as professional and compassionate communication skills.
Assist with food preparation, as necessary.
Monitor building safety through the use of locked and alarmed doors, intercom system, and surveillance cameras.
Log daily activities, providing coworkers with pertinent information regarding the overview of shift worked.
Supervise and oversees the activities of ministry guests (residents), providing guidance and modeling expectations as expressed in the guest guidebook.
Administer discipline when necessary for inappropriate behavior in accordance with the guest handbook.
Conduct Growing HOPE sessions as requested and participates in program classes and worship regularly.
Establish and maintain professionalism while working relationships with other service providers in the greater Lenawee County area.  
Perform general housekeeping duties to assure the cleanliness of the ministry, inside and outside the building.
Participate in ministry staff meetings, program development initiatives, ministry improvements, and strategic planning as required.  
Represent NOH WCMC through various program activities in the community.
Work to protect the reputation of the ministry in all situations and under all circumstances.
Welcome, supervise, train, and nurture the investment of volunteers at the NOH WCMC.
Maintain open and effective professional communication (written and verbal) with residents and all ministry staff.
Possess the ability to play and provide opportunities for physical activities within the ministry center.
Attend NOH WCMC-sponsored meetings and events, including religious activities, and represents NOH at cross-agency meetings as designated by Ministry Director or Assistant Director.
Fulfill all aspects of the position job description according to the biblical principles and philosophy of the NOH WCMC

QUALIFICATIONS:

Personal:

Be called by God to the ministry of serving women and children who are homeless and in transition and have a burden and heartbeat for them.  
Must provide positive modeling of Christian character and offer belief in the goals of residents.  
Actively seek the unity of believers.
Possess a desire to serve in meeting the physical needs of our residents and point them to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

Education and Experience: Prior experience in ministry work is preferred and some understanding of addiction and recovery is required.  A thorough knowledge of what God is doing through the ministry of NOH ministry and missions is desirable.  A high school diploma or GED is required.

Physical:

Sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform job functions.
Manipulate, handle, feel and control items or equipment, including appliances.
Maintain legal driving status and safely transport guests as requested by Ministry Director.
Able to read, write and interpret written documents, including the guest guidebook as well as the bible.
Occasionally lift and move objects or persons weighing up to 50 pounds. 

Mental:

Must be able to endure stressful situations and endure relationships that can be challenging.
Ability to exercise healthy coping skills and seek guidance as needed.

Skills and Abilities: Ability to interpret ministry program guest guidebook, and to exercise Christian guidance for guests.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with supervisors, co-workers, peers, volunteers, clientele, and the public.  

Starting Pay: $12.00/hr (not including overtime or holiday pay)
